Taylor Swift Calls Paul McCartney an "Eternally Exceptional Artist" After His New Album Drop

Paul McCartney just dropped a new album, and Taylor Swift couldn’t help but gush about it.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Swift shared McCartney’s post promoting his freshly released record, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, and penned a caption that left little room for ambiguity about her feelings: “Never not inspired by this eternally exceptional artist.”

It’s the kind of praise you’d expect from someone who clearly reveres the man, and honestly, the feeling seems pretty mutual.

A Respect Built Over Years

The two music legends have been exchanging compliments and admiration for quite some time now. Back in May, McCartney sat down for an interview on BBC Sounds where he was asked whether he’d have any advice for Swift given the magnitude of her global fame. His response was both honest and endearing.

“You do see the parallel, you know the fame and the amount of fame. The worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had,” McCartney said, before adding with a chuckle, “But I don’t think she needs any advice to tell you the truth.”

When pressed further, the 83-year-old Beatles icon didn’t dismiss the idea entirely, but made clear he’d only step in if asked. “If she asked for it, I’m like the older brother to that generation, or more like the grandad, actually.”

That’s honestly pretty sweet. There’s no condescension there, just a man acknowledging the weight of what Swift has achieved while keeping things light.

When They Actually Sat Down Together

What makes this mutual respect feel more substantial than typical industry pleasantries is the fact that these two actually spent time digging into each other’s work. In 2020, Rolling Stone paired them for their first-ever Musicians on Musicians feature, and the conversation that followed was surprisingly substantive.

Swift revealed she’d listened to McCartney III—the album where Paul played every instrument—and came away impressed by what she saw as a flex of creative independence. “To me, that’s like flexing a muscle and saying, ‘I can do all this on my own if I have to,’” she told him.

McCartney, ever the humble legend, brushed off the interpretation. “I don’t think like that, I must admit,” he said. “I just picked up some of these instruments over the years.”

It’s a small moment, but it illustrates something nice about their dynamic. She approaches his work with a songwriter’s eye; he receives it with genuine modesty. Neither is performing—they’re just two people who take their craft seriously.

What stands out most is that this isn’t a one-sided fandom. Both clearly admire what the other brings to the table, and neither seems interested in diminishing the other’s achievements. In an industry often defined by competition and comparison, there’s something refreshing about watching two artists of this caliber simply celebrate each other.

That Instagram caption from Swift wasn’t just PR—she’s clearly been paying attention.
