Kacey Musgraves Is Coming Back to Coachella, and She's Already Stirring the Pot

Kacey Musgraves just made her Coachella 2026 comeback official, and she wasted no time reminding everyone why she’s one of the sharpest voices in music right now. The country star announced she’ll perform during the festival’s second week on Saturday at the Mojave Tent from 3 to 3:50 p.m., marking her return to the desert since her last appearance in 2019.

The announcement itself was peak Musgraves. She posted a playful Instagram video set to her track “Middle of Nowhere” with the caption “Somewhere on the way to ★ 𝑪𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂 ★,” turning what could’ve been a standard lineup reveal into something that actually felt worth the scroll.

New Music, Fresh Perspective

The timing here matters. Musgraves has a seventh studio album dropping May 1 via Lost Highway Records, and from what we know so far, it’s going to be worth paying attention to. The 13-song project features some seriously heavy hitters in its collaborations: Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings, and Gregory Alan Isakov all show up on the record.

She already released the album’s first single, “Dry Spell,” last month, and the creative direction seems intentional. In a statement about the project, Musgraves explained that “the bulk of this record was made during the longest single period of my life. I found that for the first time, it actually felt incredible being alone and existing in a space not defined by anyone else.”

That’s not throwaway artist speak. She’s actually articulating something worth exploring: the idea of liminal space, both geographical and emotional. These transitional moments where we’re between one thing and another, not yet defined by what comes next. Most of us rush through them. Musgraves leaned in.

She’s Still Not Holding Back

On the same day she announced Coachella, Musgraves also reminded everyone she’s not afraid to punch up. She called out President Donald Trump for posting what appeared to be an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus healing the sick. Her response was characteristically sharp: she recreated the exact same image but with Dolly Parton as the Christ figure and herself as the patient needing healing.

It’s funny, it’s pointed, and it says something about where we are culturally that a country star’s subtweet becomes its own kind of news cycle. But that’s Musgraves’ lane. She’s always been willing to say things that matter to her, whether it’s about social issues related to Entertainment or just the state of the world.

The Coachella set might be short, but if her recent output is any indication, she’ll make every minute count. Whether she dips into this new album material or revisits past work, watching Musgraves command a desert stage has always been worth your time. The real question is what she’ll do next to surprise us.
