Ikea’s playful Varmblixt smart light has become a standout in the crowded world of connected home devices, and now it’s getting a price cut that makes it even harder to ignore. Through November 11th, you can grab this quirky donut-shaped lamp for $79.99, down from its regular $99.99 price tag at Ikea. For anyone looking to add some personality to their nightstand or living space without breaking the bank, this deal is worth paying attention to.
What sets the Varmblixt apart from other smart lights isn’t just its distinctive ring-shaped form, though that certainly helps it stand out. The lamp was designed with real-world placement in mind. You can plop it on a table, hang it on your wall, or mount it using a simple screw. No complicated installation process, no need to hire an electrician. Just position it where you want it and start enjoying your new mood lighting.
One thing to keep in mind: at 180 lumens, this isn’t a lamp designed to illuminate an entire room. If you’re looking for bright overhead lighting for task work, look elsewhere. But for bedside ambiance or creating the perfect vibe in a bedroom or living room corner, the Varmblixt delivers exactly what you need. This is smart lighting done right, prioritizing experience over raw power.
The newer model represents a significant upgrade from its predecessor. Where the old version could only display orange, this iteration cycles through 12 preset colors ranging from soft pinks and calming blues to various greens and white tones. The included wireless remote makes switching between colors effortless. You’re not fumbling with an app or hunting for your phone in the dark. Just reach for the remote, and you’ve got instant control over colors, brightness, and power.
For those not interested in smart home integration, the Varmblixt works perfectly as a standalone device. The remote handles everything you need without requiring a separate hub or complicated setup.
Where things get really interesting is when you dive into the smart home ecosystem. The Varmblixt supports Matter, the new smart home standard that’s finally starting to feel like it’s living up to its promise. This means you can integrate the lamp with Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa.
Once you’ve connected it to your smart home platform, you unlock hundreds of additional colors beyond those 12 presets. Voice control becomes available, letting you adjust lighting with simple commands. You can set schedules, create sunrise and sunset routines, and even link the lamp to motion sensors throughout your home.
Alternatively, Ikea’s Dirigera hub offers another path forward. Beyond basic smart home connectivity, it brings features like Spöka, which gradually shifts white light throughout the day to mimic natural daylight cycles. It’s the kind of thoughtful feature that genuinely improves your living experience over time.
At $79.99, the Varmblixt sits at an attractive price point for a smart light with this much capability. You’re getting solid build quality, genuine design consideration, and flexibility in how you use it. Whether you treat it as a simple bedside lamp or integrate it fully into your connected home, the Varmblixt adapts to your needs.
The $20 discount through November 11th isn’t the deepest sale we’ve ever seen, but combined with the product’s inherent value and the timing heading into the holiday season, it’s worth acting on if you’ve been curious about upgrading your lighting setup.
