1. Purpose of resume:

Some people write a resume the way as the purpose of the document was to get a job. Hence, they end up with a long and boring piece which gives an impression of a desperate job hunter. The objective of resume must be to land an interview which will ultimately land you a job.

2. Avoid humorous mistakes:

There are many people who are used to include statements such as “Available for interview” and “References available upon request.” If you are sending a resume to a firm, it obviously indicates that you are available for an interview and definitely that you will provide references upon requested. Avoid such items that can make the employer think like “no kidding please!”

Avoid using a colored background, images or fancy fonts on your resume. Sure, you might assume that the little flowers will cheer up the document, but employers might just throw it away at first sight.

3. Stay optimist:

Avoid any sort of negativity will writing a resume as it gives a professional curriculum vitae writing services to employers. This point should be considered both for resume writing as well as for interview. There is no need to include the things which tell about the reasons of your dislike or hatred for the previous organization.

If you have worked or reported with someone who is well known in the industry, it could be a better idea to mention it on your resume. The same thing applies to CEOs and presidents. If you worked directly with high ranked persons, add it to the resume.

4. Avoid pictures:

Sure everyone can accept that you are good looking and have groomed personality but there is no need to attach pictures unless or until you are asked to do so. Or do it if you are applying for a job where physical traits are considered like acting modeling etc.

Similarly, don’t overstuff your resume as the purpose is to give the overall amount of information, but not to check the amount of text that you can pack in single paper. Make the resume as short and concise as possible.

5. Avoid mentioning all work experiences:

It is unnecessary to mention all types of works and life experiences in your resume. If you have experiences that is not relevant to present job or that you are not proud of just skip them. Like it is not necessary to mention that you used to sell chicken corn soup when you were 20 as it will not be helpful to impress the employers for the current job.

If you have been working for 25 years or more, it is useless to have 2 pages of your resume mentioning all your work experiences, starting with the job as the local salesman when you were 18! Experts agree that the last 15 years of career are enough to mention.

6. Avoid using irrelevant information:

It is not legal to discriminate people on the basis of their age, but some employers do these considerations however. Don’t risk the trouble, unless you are specifically requested, it’s useless to include your age on your resume. Irrelevant information such as religion, political affiliation and sexual preference will not be helpful. In fact it might even decrease your chances of landing an interview. Just omit it. Similarly, unless you are 100% sure that your hobbies will support your candidacy, don’t mention them. We know that you are proud of your cricket team, but share it with your friends and family but not with potential employers. It should be common sense, but trust me, it is not. Slang should be avoided in a resume. As for technical jargon, do not think that the employer will know about your talk. Even if you are sending the resume to a company of the related field still the person who will read it first, might not be having technical expertise.

7. Ideal resume:

o The ideal length for a resume is a controversial subject. Most recruiting specialists and employers, however, say that it should not contain more than one or two pages at maximum. Just keep in mind that if provided all the necessary information is there, the shorter your resume, the better.

o If you are using a paper version of resume, make sure that you are using a decent printer. Laser printers normally get the job done. Plain white paper should be preferred one as well.

o Avoid using lies as nowadays companies also check the background of their employees.
