Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken's characters are prisoners of war and, as part of the psychological torture they must face, they are made to play Russian roulette with each other while the enemy watches. The realistic, emotionally volatile acting and nature of the scene made this a part of the movie that you cover your eyes through, but yet you cannot look away.

2. LA Confidential (1997)

Directed by Curtis Hanson, this suspenseful crime drama contains another disturbing Russian roulette scene, in which Guy Pierce’s character, who is unsuccessfully interrogating three suspects and can’t get the information he needs to make the case. While this is going on, Russell Crowe’s character busts into the room and forces the main suspect to play a version of Russian roulette, pulling the trigger three times before stopping, though in this version only the suspect is on the receiving end. It is a scene of force and suspense, filled with tension and expectation. 

3. Malcolm X (1992)

Directed by Spike Lee, this movie has another very intense Russian roulette scene in it. There are a number of people in the room, but only one who Denzel Washington is trying to scare.He lines the bullets up on the table in front of everyone. He puts a bullet in the chamber, asks if the other man feels like he could actually be a leader and, without waiting, puts the gun up to his own head and pulls the trigger once. Click. Then again. Click. If that wasn’t enough, he then gets up and pushes the gun into the side of the man’s face, and asks him again if he thinks that he can be the leader of the group and pulls the trigger. Power dynamics shift and it is clear that Denzel Washington’s character has won.

4. Leon: The Professional (1994)

Directed by Luc Besson, this movie showcases a very emotional and compelling Russian roulette scene, depicting the developing relationship between Natalie Portman and Jean Reno’s characters. A young Natalie Portman, desperate to show learn Reno’s profession, which is hitman, threatens to shoot herself while playing Russian roulette. It’s a highly suspenseful and very emotional scene that displays the depth of each character. 

5. Starsky And Hutch (2004)

Directed by Todd Phillips, this silly comedy has a rather hysterical Russian roulette scene in it. Starsky is interrogating a suspect in a dingy Chinatown location. Noting that things aren’t going the way he wants, Starsky pulls out his gun and threatens to play Russian roulette as a method to get the information that he needs. He asks the suspect, sarcastically, if he wants to play games. The suspect remains unimpressed and so Starsky begins. He puts the gun to his head and things start getting tense. At that moment, his partner comes in and, seeing what Starksy is doing, wrestles the gun away from him, only to have the gun fire into the ceiling and scare everyone half to death. This comedy of errors proves rewarding and ensures plenty of laughs in the movie theater.
